What is the Art Society of Kingston
ASK is an umbrella organization for visual art, education, and performance.
We have three art galleries, a 99-seat performance space, and a large classroom.
The Great Room performance space includes a stage, curtains, a sound system, a lighting system, and a good floor for dance.
The three galleries, open Thursday through Sunday, noon to 5 pm, have new exhibitions each month.
Openings are on the first Saturday of the month, 3 pm to 5 pm.
The Arts Society of Kingston (ASK), utilizing its organization, expertise, and facilities, acts as an umbrella to foster and promote the arts in Kingston and the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Founded in 1995 by a small group of local artists in Kingston, NY, ASK has grown to become a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) membership organization with over 350 members. Among them you will find many talented, highly respected professional artists as well as emerging artists and supporters of the arts.
In 2005, ASK acquired the building at 97 Broadway in Kingston and began renovating the ground floor to become its new headquarters, exhibition spaces, and multi-arts center. In the summer of 2015, extensive work on the second floor of the building was completed.
Visual Arts – ASK provides artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in group and solo shows. ASK holds between 10 and 12 monthly member exhibitions throughout the year as well as shows of featured artists. ASK’s ground-floor galleries are handicap accessible and a chair lift is available for access to the second-floor classroom and performance space.
Performance Arts – ASK provides space and opportunity for the presentation of dance, theatre, music, and film. Members and non-members can show short pieces in our series of Performance Showcases and longer pieces through the performing arts series ASK Presents.
Education – ASK provides space for classes in acting, dance, and life drawing, as well as talks by artists and performers about their work and process.
